- ➤ Salem deputy city manager Scott Archer is leaving for a new job managing Oregon City's parks department—his last day is April 11 and his new role starts April 21. His departure, the second top leadership exit since February, leaves two key roles vacant as interim manager Krishna Namburi now leads the city through a tough budget cycle with a $14 million deficit. - ➤ Salem Police canceled its annual Community Police Academy scheduled for April due to a $13.8 million budget shortfall—this cut is part of broad efficiency measures that reduced the program from twice-yearly to once-yearly sessions. The program, which began in the mid-1990s and offered hands-on training about police procedures, may return next fiscal year though no alternate training is available now. Statesman Journal
- ➤ On Sunday, about 80 postal workers and supporters rallied outside the Keizer post office to protest federal proposals to cut jobs and privatize the postal service—fearing the changes will lead to delays, especially in rural areas. The protest, organized by the National Association of Letter Carriers, saw demonstrators raising signs and chanting their support for maintaining universal mail service—concerns that could affect local delivery in Salem.
