CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Roger Tofte bought 20 acres (south of Salem) and spent seven years building the Enchanted Forest, a children's theme park that opened in 1971. Statesman Journal
- ➤ Roger Tofte (creator of Enchanted Forest) is rebuilding his original 1968 Humpty Dumpty sculpture after a recent fall, as early photos and sketches show his dream taking shape since the park opened in 1971. The historic park south of Salem continues to honor his visionary legacy. Statesman Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Marion County District Attorney Paige Clarkson convened a grand jury Friday, Mar. 13 to review Oregon State Hospital’s ability to deliver secure mental health care amid reports of delayed treatment and leadership turnover (the facility serves 550 patients in Salem and 145 in Junction City). - ➤ Gussie Belle Commons is a 120-unit affordable housing community at 739 23rd St. NE in Salem that was featured on March 13. The community offers 3-bedroom apartments with in-unit washers-dryers and a playground. Statesman Journal
