The first Salem Saturday Market of 2026 opened on Saturday, March 7 as local vendors sold handmade goods, fresh produce, baked items, and artisan foods at a community event in Salem.

Terry Moss, a former police chief from St. Helens, found a passion for wood carving after a chance visit to Fred Meyer in Scappoose and now sells his handcrafted caricatures for thousands — his work is part of a weekly series celebrating local Mid-Valley talent.

BLM has proposed including Valley of the Giants—an old-growth forest near Falls City known for its 400- to 450-year-old Douglas firs and Western Hemlocks—in its plan to expand domestic timber production.
