Murdock Charitable Trust shared its Fall 2025 Grants Report on Feb. 25, awarding 112 grants totaling $30.8 million; in Salem three groups received $1 million for building projects (Capital Fútbol Club got $350,000, The Salem Academy received $400,000 and Hope Pregnancy Clinic got $250,000). 1430 KYKN
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Salem-Keizer CTEC and South Salem High School students will compete on March 2 at the Salem Convention Center — a statewide event where they will test culinary and management skills. They aim for a state title and a path to nationals scheduled for April 24 to 26 in Baltimore. Salem Business Journal
- ➤ McKay High School Royal Scots marching band performed at Disneyland on Feb. 15 after years of practice and fundraising. The 114 students marched on Main Street, USA, proudly representing their community (directed by band director Scott Avzaradel). Salem Reporter
- ➤ Gov. Kotek announced on Tuesday a roundtable (chaired by early learning experts from the Children’s Institute and former state official Sara Mickelson) that will devise a blueprint for universal pre-K access for 3- and 4-year-olds statewide. Salem Reporter

- ➤ A total lunar eclipse will transform the March worm moon into a blood moon on March 3. The eclipse will peak at 3:38 a.m. PT and be visible with the naked eye — a rare astronomical event before 2028. Statesman Journal

- ➤ A Salem-based company, Willamette Valley Fruit Company, recalled nearly 56,000 lbs of frozen blueberries due to a listeria risk—alerting consumers to potential health hazards.
