  • United Way is asking the state for $2 million to buy Marion Polk Food Share’s 30,000 sqft warehouse at 1600 Salem Industrial Way N.E. so it can move its Community Resource Center and better process donations for over 75 local groups, with state lawmakers expected to decide by March 8.  Salem Reporter

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, the National Weather Service says Salem and surrounding areas will see a mix of rain and snow showers with less-than-half-inch of snow this afternoon. ODOT crews are pre-treating roads, so drivers should slow down and carry chains if needed.  Statesman Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Oregon Lottery in Salem earned the World Lottery Association’s highest Level Four Certification on Feb. 17, 2026 — its third consecutive best in class recognition for responsible gaming — reinforcing its commitment to player safety and trust.  1430 KYKN
  • Oregon’s state parks are recruiting seasonal rangers and assistants for the 2026 season in coastal, valley and mountain areas. Applicants can earn $20.28 to $23.79 per hour with benefits such as paid sick leave and health plans — visit the OPRD website for details — as positions start this month.  Statesman Journal
  • Avel Gordly, the first Black woman elected to the Oregon Senate, died on Feb. 16 at 79. She served in the House and Senate while championing social justice and public reform (recognized by the Avel Gordly Center for Healing), leaving a lasting legacy in state policy.  Statesman Journal

  • Federal officials issued a national Class II recall affecting over 20,000 peanut butter products after pieces of blue plastic were found in production filters. Oregonians are advised to check labels for products by Ventura Foods and related brands and follow retailer guidance for returns or safe disposal.  Statesman Journal
