  • Salem Capitals and Santiam Brewing have launched a three-drink lineup with branded ciders and IPA to support nonprofits, with bars+restaurants able to add voluntary kickbacks that benefit causes like mental health awareness and veterans housing.  Salem Business Journal

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Cellar 54, a new entertainment and event venue, held its grand opening Jan. 24 in the basement of The Forge at 285 Liberty St. NE — it offers 4,000 sqft for gatherings with a warming kitchen, bar, and flexible space that has hosted community events and adds to downtown's revitalization.  Statesman Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city has blocked part of Bush’s Pasture Park parking lot on Southeast Leffelle Street to stop car camping and abandoned vehicles — the closure will continue through March with emergency vehicles and residents able to use an alternate road.  Salem Reporter
  • The US Forest Service is hiring 2,000 seasonal employees for summer work in Oregon national forests near Salem and Eugene. The roles support visitor services, trail maintenance & resource management and target local residents, with details available on USAJOBS.gov.  Statesman Journal

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Salem’s real estate forum reviewed trends in retail, multifamily, and residential construction, noting improved leasing with higher small-format deals, modest rent growth, and longer permitting timelines causing extra costs (delays now taking months rather than weeks). Mayor Julie Hoy urged earlier planning and collaboration to address these challenges.  Salem Business Journal

  • Woodburn wrestler Jovanny Paniagua won Maps Credit Union high school boys Athlete of the Week after pinning his opponent in his 138-pound match (4 min, 56 sec) on Feb. 4 with Central, receiving 67.41% of reader votes. Salem Academy's Noah Burns ranked second in the contest.  Statesman Journal
  • Crosshill Christian basketball player Kasey Zuidema was named Maps Credit Union high school girls Athlete of the Week after scoring 23 points and grabbing 12 rebounds during the Eagles' 46-42 win over Central Linn on Feb. 3, with reader votes showing 70.77 percent support.  Statesman Journal
