EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Salem-Keizer School District teachers participated in intensive reading training by CORE Learning at Chavez Elementary on Jan. 28 while classes were canceled for 15,000 students; the professional development aimed to update literacy methods for effective reading instruction. Salem Reporter
- ➤ Salem-Keizer School District officials proposed a $23 million budget cut plan that will cut 120 school jobs due to enrollment decline and will hold public sessions today at the Career Technical Education Center + tomorrow at Houck Middle School to review the proposals. Salem Reporter
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Residents will set their clocks forward at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 8 as Oregon begins daylight saving time to extend evening light. Lawmakers are discussing a permanent change but await Congressional approval + the decision remains pending. Statesman Journal
- ➤ The City of Salem began a two-month trial of Daxbot—an Oregon-made security robot—at Pringle Parkade on High Street SE on Feb. 2. It patrols from 4 p.m. to 7 a.m. and is monitored live from Philomath with funding provided by the City’s Facilities budget. 1430 KYKN
