ECONOMY NEWS

  • A study by Anthropic shows that Oregon ranks ninth among top states for AI use, with residents using tools like Claude to compare products and handle home repairs, academic tasks, and health inquiries. The report released on Jan. 15 highlights widespread digital adoption.  Statesman Journal
  • Gov. Tina Kotek launched her Prosperity Council at the World Trade Center in Portland on Thursday as 16 industry leaders discussed reforms to boost Oregon's economy and streamline permits and tax breaks. The council will deliver recommendations by June 30 and reconvene in Bend in February.  Salem Reporter

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A flag from the Capitol that burned in 1935 is now displayed in Hearing Room 50 at the Capitol in Salem. The artifact was restored for display in 1990 (by the Oregon Heritage Commission) as part of the ongoing maintenance and accessibility efforts.  Statesman Journal
  • The city of Salem will begin testing a new pump connection to the Keizer water system Monday as part of emergency upgrades ahead of the Detroit Lake drawdown planned for fall or winter. Some residents may notice a temporary change in water color during the week-long test.  Salem Reporter
