COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The indoor Salem Public Market, founded in 1943, hosts 29 booths every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. + 2 p.m. at 1240 Rural Ave. S.E. and connects locals through fresh food, handmade goods, and a welcoming atmosphere.  Salem Reporter
  • Church at the Park will lay off three outreach workers effective Feb. 2 following a funding cut from PacificSource, cutting its team in half from a year ago. The smaller team will continue helping people transition from the streets into shelters and apartments in Salem.  Salem Reporter

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Urban Air Adventure Park will open its first Oregon location in Salem in May — led by Drew and Betty Thomas, the indoor venue will offer active play attractions, group events and a fast-casual café for families.  Salem Business Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • More than 50 Oregon art organizations including Silverton and Western Oregon University are set to receive $5,000 each from the Oregon Arts Commission’s FY2026 Arts Build Communities grants to support local art projects. The grants are awarded through a partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.  1430 KYKN

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gov. Kotek launched a 16-member Prosperity Council at the World Trade Center Portland * the advisory group will recommend business reforms and job-creation measures with findings expected by June 30; the next meeting is scheduled in Bend in February.  Oregon Capital Chronicle

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Willamette Valley has seen no measurable rain for 12 days, with Salem recording 1.95 inches so far, while the National Weather Service forecasts a 30 to 50 percent chance of light rain on Jan. 27 and Jan. 28 that is not expected to break the dry streak.  Statesman Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Oregon Department of Revenue will begin processing e-filed 2025 tax returns on Monday, Jan. 26 with first refunds expected Feb. 17; eligible taxpayers will receive a share of Oregon's $1.41 billion kicker. Residents are urged to use free online filing to avoid delays with paper submissions + ensure quick refunds.  1430 KYKN
