  • The Salvation Army announced that the Lighthouse Shelter, a 90-day transitional program serving residents for 60 years, will close at the end of January due to financial challenges — the agency will shift resources to its food pantry and case management services while current residents complete their programs.  Salem Reporter
  • Salem First Presbyterian Church will open its warming shelter at 770 Chemeketa St. N.E. overnight Saturday through Monday as temperatures drop below freezing—adults may bring pets, enjoy dinner and breakfast, and free Cherriots rides are provided.  Salem Reporter

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lawmakers are set to debate a bill to replace Oregon’s 27-year-old school funding model and reset public education standards — the proposal reassigns funding analysis to a state agency and will be reviewed during a legislative session beginning Feb. 2 at the Capitol.  Oregon Capital Chronicle

  • A Marion County Circuit Court judge ruled Tuesday that Pacific Power must show continual progress in cutting emissions, confirming the Oregon Public Utility Commission's power under House Bill 2021—an enforcement step aimed at spurring clearer clean energy plans.  Salem Reporter
  • The Oregon Department of Administrative Services published the Office of Economic Analysis’ 2026 Production Targets and Adopted Methodology, outlining the state’s housing production, affordability and choice results based on House Bill 2001.
