Hunsaker Dental will host a ribbon cutting at its new Salem clinic at 835 Commercial St. SE on Monday, Jan.

🎓 Education
The school board will vote on new three-year contracts for deputy superintendents Olga Cobb (overseeing elementary schools) and Danielle Neves (overseeing middle and high schools) at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan.
13 in the boardroom at 2575 Commercial St. S.E. The deals include a 3.5% cost-of-living raise and run through June 30, 2029.
🏛️ Government
Tim Lewis, a retired Salem-Keizer teacher, now gives weekly Capitol tours to help visitors learn about the building's $505 million renovation and historic features.
He began volunteering in 2018—adding extra tours as needed—and looks forward to more in-person sessions when the legislative session begins in February.
The Oregon Head Start Association urged Gov. Tina Kotek to restore $9.5 million cut from Head Start programs, which has led to job losses in Salem and other areas + lawmakers will seek to restore funding during the Feb.
2 session if no action is taken.
Taxpayers are urged to file electronically to avoid a longer wait for their refund + kicker.
Oregon's Department of Revenue will start processing electronic returns Monday, Jan. 26 with refunds issued Feb. 15, while paper returns won’t be processed until early April.
Salem Fire Chief David Gerboth has asked the city council to add four full-time ambulance medic positions to help manage a surge in emergency calls; the vote is set for Jan.
12 at 6 p.m. at Loucks Auditorium in the Public Library.
