- ➤ Mark Wardell — CERT team leader — urges residents to prepare for disasters by building two weeks’ worth of supplies. He outlines a January plan covering water, manual can openers, instant drinks, and flashlights and will share additional preparedness and training steps next month. Salem Reporter

- ➤ Willamette Art Center reopened on Jan. 5 at its new location (3995 Fairview Industrial Drive Southeast) after spending 20 years at the Oregon State Fairgrounds. The nonprofit ceramics center welcomed visitors to its first clay-building class led by Candice Ulbricht and plans to add more studio spaces soon. Statesman Journal
- ➤ Willamette Art Center reopened at its new 3995 Fairview Industrial Drive Southeast location in south Salem — the center welcomes locals to explore the updated space. Statesman Journal
- ➤ Portland-based Metragnome opened its 10th rehearsal studio at 676 Church St. N.E. in downtown Salem yesterday; the newly renovated facility offers 49 monthly and three hourly spaces (hourly rates range from $15 to $30) and aims to reconnect the local music community. Salem Reporter

- ➤ The National Weather Service in Portland has issued a winter storm warning for the Cascade Mountain passes from today to Jan. 8, predicting up to 2 feet of snow and 40 mph winds at routes including Santiam and Willamette Pass — travel may be difficult though ski areas will benefit.
